Casebook was the first portrait project that I shot with a DSLR. All of the people involved are work colleagues with no modelling or acting experience and I wanted to portray them as criminal characters (and a victim), though I can assure you, they're all very nice people!
There was no budget for the project, so I had to scout locations, pull together props and work with available lighting from street lamps, security lights or daylight.
I learned a tremendous amount from this series, about my camera, portraiture, scene design, planning and also about myself as a budding photographer.
Rather than shy away from the visible flaws and mistakes, I've got a great deal of affection for the series and the value I got from an exercise that helped me really become a photographer.
